Survived Tax Day!!

I decided that this year I was going to start early on doing the taxes. I don't know what happenend! Just like in school, cramming for the big test the night before, was the way to finish the income tax challenge.

This time, at least, I started last week gathering up all the information. I looked around at the local library and post office for paper forms, didn't see any. Not sure where they have them available. Also, since I wanted to be "green", decided to do them online.

One big website was OK, but decided against it. I decided instead to go with TurboTax. It was a breeze to do the long form and it had a live community section to ask questions as you went through the process. The reason that it took me so long is that I kept double checking everything to make sure it was complete and correct. This time, I decided to do everything online, including signatures! I didn't want to drive and wait in traffic to deliver the forms to the post office.

This may seem obvious, but already today, I am starting to get organized for taxes in 2009. Maybe, I will get Quicken or another program like that, with the rebate check that should be coming in May!

April Weather in Tucson

It's been windy and mild in Tucson lately. Not that I am complaining, but I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Maybe, it will be a mild summer here....there is always hope!

Hail, Rain, Sun, and a Rainbow!

The weather in Tucson has been weird lately. Normally, we get the usual summer monsoon season and then some rain at the end of the year. I am not sure what the rainfall average has been over this last year, but it seems much wetter.

This isn't a complaint, we need the rain! It was funny to hear the neighborhood kids scream about getting a "snowball". The hail covered my yard and car, it sort of looked like snow. My mom requested photos when I called to check if she had any hail on the westside.

The Catalina mountains are covered in snow right now. After the hail and rain, the sun came out. The rainbow that was in the sky was amazing! Seeing a rainbow, automatically puts me in a good mood.

Quick reminder: Arizona is part of the Super Tuesday primary. Please vote! Online information should be available for each county. In Pima county, polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Lastly, please be aware of your polling place; mine changed (to a closer location). Thanks!

Busy in Arizona with the Superbowl and Gem Show!

It is a busy weekend for Arizona!

Right now, people are getting ready for the Super Bowl in Glendale. I haven't been in the new stadium, but I have been told that it is pretty nice. Not sure what I am going to bring to the party today. The party hostess is a salsa queen, so I will leave mine at home. I really don't know who will win. I hope that it is a close game.

Yesterday, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show started and will continue until the 17th. The Gem Show is very interesting and it has a lot of items for all kinds of budgets. Many vendors come from all over the world. Pace yourself when you go, because it can get overwhelming. Also, another tip is to pick what type of items you are looking for and go to that "area"/hotel where they might be. We went to a hotel that had mostly fossils last time, and I enjoyed spending most of the day there.

Thinking about buying a house

My husband and I have been renting for about two years. Prior to that, we were homeowners. We really enjoy the neighborhood we live in, but the prices seem to be a little out of reach.

I have been doing some research online looking for new neighborhoods. Driving around during the day and night seems to be a good step. We live near the University of Arizona, in Tucson.

The campus is about a twenty minute walk from our house, not too bad. We would prefer to be in an area with just homes. Some of the bigger apartment complexes are mostly student housing, with fun parties to match! We are a little bit past that stage. My husband is a light sleeper, so that wouldn't go over to well.

Having grocery stores, restaurants, coffee houses, within walking or very short driving distance is part of what we are looking for. Himmel Park and the Pima County Library are close by, we probably go there at least once a week.

The expected first post.....

Well, since I have bits and pieces of myself out there, I have decided to try to keep them all in one place. More than likely, my friends will find out about this blog, before my family.

I found a how-to internet book at my Mom's house the other day. She turned 65 last year. She can access her bank account and email right now. I told her about You Tube, but she waits until I get there to show her the latest videos.

Why More Salsa Please? That is something that I probably eat on a daily basis. Living in the southwest, it is all over the place. Any family gathering will include salsa, and lots of it. If my Tia will allow me, I might post her famous recipe.

Thanks!
